A Buffy Movie Without Joss Whedon? WTF is the Point of That?

DigiBitch post by Kelsey Wallace on May 27, 2009 - 11:38am; tagged Buffy, feminism, film, Joss Whedon, Luke Perry, television, WTF?.

Did anyone else see that a new Buffy The Vampire Slayer film is being made, but that Joss Whedon won't be involved? WTF is the point of that?

Without Whedon, won't the film just be a remake of the decidedly less kick-ass1992 original? WHY MUST HOLLYWOOD SUCK THE LIFE (and feminism) OUT OF EVERYTHING GOOD?!?

Sit Down Shut Up: Cool Enough For School?

DigiBitch post by Kelsey Wallace on April 21, 2009 - 2:01pm; tagged Arrested Development, Fox, Sit Down Shut Up, television.
As a card-carrying Mitch Hurwitz devotee, I anxiously awaited the premiere of Fox's Sit Down Shut Up (which first aired on Sunday, but which I watched yesterday on Hulu). After all, SDSU was created by Hurwitz, supposedly inspired by Summer Heights High, and features voice acting by Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, Henry Winkler, and Cheri Oteri (among other hilarious actors). What's not to be psyched about?

Now, to be fair, my hopes were about as high as they could be for this show, so while I'll say I was a bit disappointed, that doesn't mean I didn't think it was funny or worth watching. Plus, in traditional Hurwitz fashion, SDSU manages to pack quite a lot of content into a 22-minute episode. They cover all sorts of taboo topics in the pilot, including, naturally, gender politics. Read on for more!
Oh, and here's a clip:

Totally Syked

Love / Shove post by Kjerstin Johnson on April 2, 2009 - 12:44pm; tagged comedy, late-night television, lesbian icons, television, Wanda Sykes.
thumb.jpg I'm sure that pun's been done, but Wanda Sykes is slotted to have her own late night show on Saturdays on Fox! According to the New York Times, Sykes' show may replace the wasn't-canceled-soon-enough MAD TV. I'm not a big late-night TV fan--I just can't handle watching Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel, Craig "WTF? (Why's This Funny?)" Ferguson, and especially the terrible terribleness of MAD TV, but this is getting me excited about SNL alternatives, especially since the NY Times reports it will feature panels and discussion of current events, which, given that it's Wanda, will hopefully mean something a bit smarter than the rest of late night drivel (miss you, Conan!) and a whole lot funnier than PBS. Wanda would be joining the ranks of Ellen DeGeneres and Rosie O'Donnell as an openly gay woman hosting their own shows, and is one of the only female late-night host currently on television. Video after the jump...

What do Beth Ditto, Club Bounce, and "More to Love" have in common? Fierce and fabulous fatness, of course!
