Douchebag Decree: The out-of-bounds coverage of Ines Sainz

Douchebag Decree post by Kjerstin Johnson on September 16, 2010 - 4:04pm; tagged Erin Andrews, football, Ines Sainz, sports culture, sportscasters.
You know what time it is, right? It's time to have a decree for the douchebags.

As you might have heard, Mexican sports reporter Ines Sainz was harassed with cat-calls and "suggestive comments" this past week while at the New York Jets practice field. The Association of Women Sportscasters has called on the NFL for an investigation, and the Jets owner has apparently offered an apology. There are some really, really, douchey ways that the media is responding to this story.

Mad World: We Got Game, But Our Ads Don't

Mad World post by Kelsey Wallace on April 13, 2010 - 12:39pm; tagged Asics, gender in advertising, Mad World, Nike, Reebok, sports, sports culture.

Douchebag Decree: Who covered Caster Semenya the worst?

DigiBitch post by Kjerstin Johnson on August 27, 2009 - 4:23pm; tagged athletes, Caster Semenya, Douchebag Decree, gender, sports, sports culture, sports writing, Women Athletes.

South African runner Caster Semenya has been making international news for a week or so now, and this week's Douchebag Decree is honor of those news outlets and blogs that have handled the blown-out-of-proportion debate over Semenya's gender the worst. It turns out that not only are pundits and bloggers jerks about Semenya herself, but have some other unfortunate sexist hangups as well. Let's see what this gang of douchebags had to say, featuring supplemental douchey content the comments from the original posts and a Douchebag Decree honorable mention!

Introductions!

Sports post by La Macha on December 3, 2008 - 7:50pm; tagged introductions, sports, sports culture.

Hello! My name is La Macha, and I'll be guest blogging at Bitch for the next bit! Usually I post at Vivir Latino with the unrivaled mami blogger; Maegan "la Mamita Mala" Ortiz. I thank the amazing Debbie for allowing me this opportunity to post here!

While I'm at Bitch, I'll be blogging about sports related 'stuff.' Now, before you roll your eyes and skip over my posts, let me just say--there's a reason that my 'column' will be posted under Team Queer: Movement and Sports Through A Bent Lens. I know that there's a reason so many women don't like sports because on many levels, I am those women myself. So I will be spending a lot of time uncovering (and encouraging YOU to uncover for yourself) reasons that 'sports' in general are a major turn off to women.
