Between the chance to pre-order Thought You Knew's 2010 calendar (proceeds going to the Chicago Women's Health Center), David Byrne's new book, and the back-to-school commute that's kicking my butt, I've got fall biking on my mind! Here are some songs to pass the time while you put on those fenders (I gotta put on those fenders...!), patch a tube, or just plain pedal!

Covers are one thing--artists re-interpreting the work of other for homage to irony and everything in between. Standards, I feel, are something else. Beyond the ability of musical reproduction, jazz standards are meant to be continually interpreted and stylized, with little rules outside of a fakebook, plus they seem to stand the test of time--hokey or cliche lyrics that really never seem to get old. A city kid by nature, I am oddly fascinated by animals and bugs (as long as they aren't in my house). Plus, it seems particularly appropriate to dedicate my mix to critters during the season of camping and hikes.
