Megan Fox

Body Double (Standard): The celebrity profiles of Megan Fox and Beyoncé

Social Commentary post by Kelsey Wallace on January 16, 2013 - 10:35pm; tagged Beyonce, Esquire, GQ, mainstream media, Megan Fox.
Men’s magazines are dubious during the best of times, but so far 2013 is bringing out their worst. Last week, eyebrows were raised by this flimsy GQ profile of Beyoncé Knowles, where author Amy Wallace says Bey's “as hot as fish grease.” This week, the same eyebrows are hitting the ceiling over Esquire’s bizarre, condescending profile of Megan Fox, in which Stephen “Victim of Feminine Contempt” Marche simultaneously exalts and pities Fox for her “bombshell” good looks.

Megan Fox Refreshingly NOT Objectified in New Acer Commercial. Plus: Talking Dolphins!

Social Commentary post by Kelsey Wallace on October 31, 2012 - 9:31am; tagged commercials, Megan Fox, sexist advertising.
Here in the feminist blogosphere, we spend a lot of time calling out sexism in the media, especially in advertising. Contrary to popular belief, this is not because we are screeching harridans, but because most mainstream advertising is hella sexist. That’s why I was extra-psyched to see this new Acer electronics ad featuring Megan Fox as a budding marine biologist who is not, at any point, reduced to a piece of ass.

Snarky's Cinemachine: Bay of Pigs

Movies post by snarkysmachine on June 9, 2010 - 11:55am; tagged Action Films, Directors, Megan Fox, Michael Bay, Snarky's Cinemachine, summer blockbusters.

Huffington Post blogger Scott Mendelson wrote an intriguing analysis of the Megan Fox/Michael Bay dust up which may or may not have been the catalyst for Fox's departure from the successful Transformers franchise. Buried in the largely astute criticisms of Fox's appeal and backlash from said appeal was this gem:
But the sheer outpouring of joy that greeted the allegation that Fox had been canned for trashing Michael Bay in public was more than a bit obnoxious. The same geeks and entertainment columnists who called co-star Shia LeBeouf honest and gutsy for criticizing Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull) were basically applauding the idea that Fox had been fired for basically doing the same thing. Why do so many people hate Megan Fox? Who do they even care?

Diablo Cody Takes on a Zombie Rom-Com, Makes More Room for Women in Horror?

Movies post by Tammy Oler on February 24, 2009 - 8:26pm; tagged Breathers, Diablo Cody, feminist horror films, horror, horror films, Jennifer's Body, Karyn Kusama, Megan Fox.

Diablo CodySo Variety has reported that Diablo Cody (Juno, The United States of Tara) is joining forces with Fox Searchlight to develop a film adapation of the upcoming zombie romance novel Breathers: A Zombie's Lament, about a recently undead man who finds love at a zombie support group. Cody won't be writing or directing the film, but she will be producing.

This is the second horror project that Diablo Cody has recently taken on and it makes me wonder: will she make more room for women in the genre?

More after the jump...
