Bitch Tapes: Pants Dance

Music post by Sara Stroo on May 28, 2010 - 8:00am; tagged BitchTapes, clothes, Elvis, fashion, freakum dress, Nancy Sinatra, Prince, These boots.

From the days of sock garters and house coats, to Gaga and the Freakum Dress, getting ready to go in the twenty-first century can be an art form these days. Like a bird who can put on new feathers at will, clothes are a window into someone’s mood, their ‘tude, or just what was still clean enough to wear to work. That too.

"Boss Ladies" to Star Fashion-Forward Trans Women

TV post by Kjerstin Johnson on February 23, 2010 - 6:38am; tagged Boss Ladies, fashion, reality TV, trans women, transgender.
three women in form-fitting but good looking clothing are presented on a photoshopped background of pink and white swirls. The one on the left has here hands on her hips. The one in the middle holds her arms away from her, and the one on the right coquettishly raises her thigh.

Just when you though you might not want another reality show about making it big in the fashion world, along comes Boss Ladies. Billed as "an exciting hybrid of 'The Real Housewives' and 'Project Runway'" (yay?) viewers follow five transgendered women from Atlanta to Los Angeles as they try to launch a clothing line and open a boutique.

Young, Fat, & Fabulous is, well, fabulous.

Social Commentary post by Kelsey Wallace on November 3, 2009 - 2:05pm; tagged Beth Ditto, fashion, fat positivity, Gabi, Young Fat & Fabulous.
I'm sure it's old news to most of you fatshionistas out there, but I have recently fallen in love with the fashion blog Young, Fat and Fabulous. It is so awesome!

Young, Fat and Fabulous (YFF) is a super-fun fashion blog that caters to fat women. The philosophy behind the blog is that there's no reason why a bigger woman can't be trendy or express herself through fashion, and also that building a community of fat fashion lovers means women can share tips and trends with one another and not feel like the only fat girl in a sea of skinny girls (you know, the girls fashion publications usually target). YFF blogger Gabi describes herself on the blog as, "a fun loving girl who happens to have a flair for fashion. I'm just trying to change the world one fat girl at a time." Yay! Here's an example from a recent YFF post:

So cute, right? Read on for more fat fabulousness!

Sarah Haskins: Fashion Expert on the Rachel Maddow Show

Social Commentary post by Kjerstin Johnson on October 15, 2009 - 10:58am; tagged fashion, fashion models, Felippa Hamilton, Rachel Maddow, Ralph Lauren, Sarah Haskins, weight.
By now maybe you've heard of Ralph Lauren model Filippa Hamilton's contract being terminated because she was "too fat." (And all this after she was horrendously photoshopped.)

Who better than tackle the topic than Target Women's Sarah Haskins, who was on the Rachel Maddow Show last night! If you missed it, here's the clip...(it also shows what happens when their graphic design team uses the same Photoshop dimensions on Rachel Maddow!)
"Ralph Lauren is just playing the game with everyone else. I think this incident primarily explains, to me, why Ralph Lauren fired...me."

DigiBitch post by Kelsey Wallace on September 13, 2009 - 12:03pm; tagged ellen degeneres, fashion, feminizm, I Can Has Cheezburger?, I Can Has Feminizm?, LOLz, Serena Williams.
Well, it's the weekend again, and nothing is better on a Sunday afternoon than kicking back with a cup of coffee and laughing at photos of animals that have been captioned in LOLspeak. Amirite? So sit back, relax, and let the LOLz roll.

Did you get a chance to read Sady's post this week about Ellen Degeneres taking over as a judge on American Idol?. Well, this kitteh is pretty psyched:

(Ellen likes to wear vests and ties, and so does the cat! Get it? LOLOLOL)

And has anyone been following Serena Williams' alleged foot fault freakout? Regardless of what she says she said, these tigers feel their behavior is justified:

And those of you who had a chance to listen to the most recent episode of Popaganda may agree with this kitteh that the fashion industry suxxx:

On the Map: Sally Potter is All the Rage

Movies post by Mandy Van Deven on September 9, 2009 - 2:12am; tagged Cannes, fashion, film, naked cinema, Rage, Sally Potter.
Sometimes after watching a movie trailer I have an immense desire to experience the film despite my having no real understanding of what it is about. The crispness of the three-minute preview of UK filmmaker Sally Potter's Rage has caused a pleasing chemical reaction in my brain, and after reading more about Potter's work, I am convinced a full viewing will be all the more pleasureful.

On the Map: Fashion and Fundraising with The Uniform Project

In Mumbai and Delhi, several fashion designers are making their radical politics known on the runway, and in fashion capital New York City, one Indian woman is drawing attention to the need for quality education for children living in the slums of her homeland with one little black dress.
