Issue #21, Summer 2003
Art Director: Briar Levit
Illustrator: Andi Zeisler
The issue number 21 inspired the theme of the Maturity & Immaturity issue, whose content explored the territories of precocity, growth, aging, and alienation. So the medium of building blocks—as a classic plaything, a metaphor for evolution, and a representation of the compartmentalization required to be a so-called grownup—seemed to fit the bill for this cover. Painted on multiple sides with representations of the trappings of adulthood (house, keys) and the items that often accompany them (dogs, kids, antidepressant medication), the blocks were arranged to highlight the multifaceted experience of moving into maturity, and the resulting feeling of balancing a precarious combination of desires and needs.
Our 15th-anniversary series prints offer something for every taste. Featuring some of our favorite covers from Bitch's 15-year history, the limited-edition prints offer gorgeous photos, cool illustrations, nifty typography, and lots of color to perk up your living space. All 15 designs are archival giclee* prints on high-quality, heavy watercolor paper, and are suitable for framing. And if you just can't decide, maybe you need more than one — after all, they'll look pretty great hanging side by side.
*A very high-quality, archival inkjet print that creates very fine detail and vivid color, used by artists to reproduce work with a high degree of integrity to the original.
