Who I am:

I'm a 33 year old cis-gendered, able-bodied white woman living in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. I lazily took one of my photos of the lighthouse that I can see from my window and used it as my profile image. It's not nearly as big as it may appear, and it's not the one from Peggy's Cove.

I'm also a disability rights activist. My husband is a full-time wheelchair user, and although I'm able-bodied, I have an invisible disability. I won't go into the details because admitting details of my mental health condition is a very good way to make it difficult to get a job, and also invites people to tell me how Very Awful people like me are. (I'm apparently Not Awful until I self-identify. Then, suddenly, I'm a bad person.)

I'm a graduate student in History at Dalhousie University, and my thesis is about disability education in residential schools, such as the Nova Scotia School for the Deaf & Dumb, and the Halifax School for the Blind, and (hopefully) the Society for the Protection of the Feeble-Minded. These institutions were all founded in the 1800s, as I think is reflected by their titles, and have all since been either renamed or disbanded.

I have a personal blog, Trouble Is Everywhere, where I talk about specific barriers to access that my husband and I experience, graduate studies, photography, fandom, feminism, the weather, and why I think ponies are the best thing ever.

I don't sleep or eat nearly enough.

Feel free to email me, but be warned that I only check my email twice a day, and priority goes to emails regarding my studies. (Sorry! It's not that I don't like you, it's that I only have so much time left in the day! But I will read your email, and probably be able to respond at some point in the future. Just, probably not that day.) My email address is anna@disabledfeminists.com

I think tea is the best thing ever, except when I like coffee more.

My user name is Anna_Palindrome because Anna is annA spelled backwards. See? See? Aren't I terribly witty?

Yes, the paragraph tells you everything you needed to know about my sense of humour.
