Oregon Loves its Ladies' Rock!
The Northwest is already well-known as an alternative music capital of the United States. From Sleater-Kinney to Kathy Foster, women's contributions to its rep have not been insignificant. In the next few weeks, Oregon will have no less than three awesome events showcasing women who rock! Local ladies, check out these events!
You've heard of the Rock 'n' Roll Camp for Girls before, now morphed into a dozen or so camps around the country, but the Portland OR office doesn't close its doors after summer. The Ladies' Rock Camp is a weekend-long session for women over 19, and the last showcase of the fall season is this Sunday, Oct. 26 at Satyricon!
The third annual Grrrlz Rock! series starts November 4th and features over 20 events, from bluegrass to belly dancing, in and around Eugene, OR. A lot of the shows are all-ages, so you can bring yer babies!
Finally, Siren Nation runs from Nov 3rd through the 9th in Portland. I'll do the math for you: 3 nights of women playing music, 3 nights of women-directed film, plus several gallery art shows, free workshops, and an arts and crafts sale squeezed somewhere in between! Gotta say, I'm pretty psyched about the lineup, including Portland dearies Laura Gibson and the New Bloods whose video "Doubles" is above!
