Groundhog Day was this week, and if we, like Bill Murray, were stuck forever repeating the last seven days, this is what we would read to keep us entertained:
- Ever-quirky, ever-fabulous Miranda July has a new movie debuting at Sundance this year! She spoke to Bust about her new project, The Future, and shares some insight into YouTube culture and how it affects young women.
- I posted last month about American Apparel's use of pubic hair in their advertising, and this week, with their new campaign, I realized I have my work cut out for me if I'm going to call AA out every time they get their clothing models naked. (Both links potentially NSFW)
- In much better news! Colorlines wrote yesterday that this year, Sundance has a record-breaking number of black filmmakers and films (30!) at the festival, flying in the face of the simultaneous whitest Oscars in a decade (also at Colorlines).
- Just in time for the Super Bowl this Sunday, Jessica Danielle at Player Perspective takes down The Atlantic's recent piece, "Can Men and Women Watch Sports Together?"
- Zach Weiner of Weinerworks used the powers of the intertubes for GOOD this week, subverting an anti-gay marriage's website to, at least momentarily, promote equality.
- The latest Oxford Comment Podcast takes on cultural ideas on beauty, and interviews the author of the Beauty Bias as well as Jessica Jarchow and Margitte Kristjansson of The Fat Body (In)Visible
- Finally, a sneak peek at the "Women Who Rock" exhibit at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! Rad exhibit, unfortunate need for an exhibit to showcase women in rock...
