I only just heard of
I only just heard of Kreayshawn an hour ago when one of my coworkers showed me the Gucci Gucci video--the song is catchy, but WOW the ignorance of her white privilege that she shows in those two links makes me want to facepalm. I hope someone gives Kreayshawn a reality check.
Re: Makeup for Men
I certainly appreciate the points made by the author of the men and cosmetics article. I didn't know that men denouncing makeup in the 1800s was a way for men to be judged by their class. The author makes interesting points about how men's self esteem could be brought down by a growing beauty standard for men and that their "class" would become more apparent. However, the article left me a bit annoyed. The author brings up that women face the struggles of beauty standards in passing and the tone, overall, sounds a bit simpering and "whoa is me and the plight of men everywhere!" (though I may be being cynical and not comprehending his tone at all). There is an expectation that women should maintain a beauty routine in order to get and keep a man, why is the thought that men may have to care for their appearance so abhorrent ? I don't believe anyone should have to buy chemicals, creams, and elixirs in order to attract someone and I certainly agree that adding pressures to men is no good. I just think that the article made me feel kind of off, as in, "Hey man! Welcome to what women have been going through for hundreds of years!"
I'm probably wrong about my interpretation of the article and I apologize if I am.
Helping a Bitch Contributer
I'm sorry to hear that Tasha Fierce needs help, but I can't fathom donating to her via her webpage. As someone who has been in nonprofits for 11 years now, I have seen many people in dire situations. Obviously things are horrible right now, and I feel compassion for her. But small donations to nonprofits can go much father than those made during e-panhandling. I respect her and wish her well.
