Third Annual Not Enough! Queer Music and Arts Festival This Weekend

Didn't it seem like just last week Portland had an awesome, two-day DIY festival? Start gearing up for another weekend of music, art, and community with Not Enough! Queer Music and Arts Festival. 

This is the third year in a row that Not Enough! is bringing together collaborative queer art, music, and performance. Just some of the festivities last year included music from Olympia's Queer Rock Camp, a documentary on the now-defunct Big Gay Warehouse, and a delicious cake that was half-confectionary half-art installation.

This year, prepare to have your face melted and mind blown from bands like Amor Oso, Telegram, and Voices. Haven't heard of them before? That's because the point of Not Enough! is to inspire new projects and to encourage people to try new creative endeavors and work with new people. No MFA? No background as musician? No problem. Projects have two simple rules: they have to be new and collaborative. Not only does this allow folks to really stretch their creative muscles and make community, you never know what will completely take off. Last year's Not Enough! saw the first performance of Reynosa—a year later they're celebrating the release of their first seven-inch.

Besides the bands, this year will have art installations, a pickling display, an amazing piñata, stand-up and improv, and performance art. The festival starts Friday at five and kicks off with a discussion on self care, health, addiction, and creating queer community. Plus: potluck!

One participant summed it up well: "[Not Enough!] allows people to identify themselves as artists. I've always been intimidated by the word 'artist,' I thought it was a word someone else had to give you. Now I know that's ridiculous and everyone's voice is relevant and important and I really love that about this festival. It gives you a platform to speak, a stage to perform, a wall to let your vision be seen. As queer people we need to realize ourselves as whatever we want and our voices should be heard."

• September 7th and September 8th at Refuge PDX (116 SE Yamhill in Portland, OR). 
• Admission each day is $7—10 sliding scale, free for folks 18 and under, and no one turned away for lack of funds.
