I Can Has Feminizm?

This week was an important one for same-sex marriage legislation, no matter which side you're on (you should be on the side of same-sex marriage). And around here, when important things happen, important LOLz must be consulted.

This kitteh is NOT happy about voters repealing the same-sex marriage law in Maine this week, and we can't blame her:

This next LOL animal is optimistic about the future of same-sex marriage legislation, inspired by the fact that a vote in Washington state this week not only granted the same rights to homosexual couples that heterosexual couples get (y'know, besides the whole "marriage" thing) but it marked the first time that legislation to dramatically expand gay rights has been approved by a statewide vote of the people anywhere in the US. Yay! Next stop, marriage!

And those of you who follow I Can Has Feminizm might recognize these advocates from our first-ever LOLz post:

Awww. You can always count on feminizt LOLz to be both cute and logical. Remember that YOU (that's right, we're talking to you) can send us your own feminist LOLz to be featured on this very blog. Just go to the LOL builder and send your creations to us via the blog tips page. We know you've got some adorable animal pics floating around that are just begging for a feminist caption. Have a great weekend, and let's go marriage equality!

What exactly does gay

What exactly does gay marriage have to do with feminism? I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm all for it. I've just seen a lot of stuff about it on this site and am just curious as to how the two are connected.

Well Jen, a lot of LGBT and Queer theorists are linked with feminist ideals and Women's Studies because at the root of all of these concerns are two undeniable factors:

Sex & Gender. So naturally, the Bitch community aligns its editorial content to support the LGBT/Q community. There is no heterosexual or homosexual without the "sexual." There is no "sexual" without sex. There is no sex without gender.

Hope that helps!

Yes. Also:

Both women and the LGBTQQIA have been historically ill-treated, in both social and legal contexts, because of the belief that some people (usually the wealthy white heterosexual males) are inherently better than all others. This belief is widespread, ingrained to a point in many, if not all, cultures and pop cultures, and often stem from misguided interpretations of religion.
So, women and queers of all sorts are both peoples who are treated as less-than because of who they simply are. I think different disenfranchised groups often have different battles to fight or forces to oppose, but I also think feminism is the belief that every person is born equal, and that if a person's worth can be determined, it is not by their body parts. In this way, women's rights and queer rights are not just related, but the same.
I hope this seems clear and not pretentious.
