Featured Mom Blog: NonCustodial Parent Community

Yup, you read that right. This week's featured mom blog, NonCustodial Parent Community, is written by a woman who doesn't live with her son. I was lucky to meet Rebekah Spicuglia last summer when I participated in the Progressive Women's Voices training program. She's the media manager for the Women's Media Center and introduced herself to me the first weekend. I immediately knew she really was...The woman who broke my heart just weeks before with a moving Mother's Day piece on her decision to "give" custody of her son to his dad.

Since then Rebekah has been getting more and more media attention to this important subject - that women do give up custody of their children, not because they are evil, selfish women, but because they love their children enough to know what is best for them. This morning she was on the "Today Show" [link to video]. She was amazing. And yes, I'm biased, super can't even pretend to be objective biased.

Ten years ago it was almost unheard of to hear moms talk about the pitfalls of motherhood. With the plethora of mom(my) blogs, you can hear so much truth about motherhood your ovaries might shrivel up. But the big taboo is "leaving" your child. And Rebekah is being brave in speaking up, especially on high profile venues.
