10 Reasons to Support Bitch Media: We're Showcasing a New Generation of Feminist Writers and Critics
1. We’re showcasing and mentoring a new generation of feminist writers and cultural critics.
One of the things that we feel strongly about at Bitch, and always have, is that there's no one monolithic feminism, but many feminisms, and even more voices that speak to that variety. And it's been gratifying, eye-opening, and thrilling to work with and publish so many of these voices over the past 17 years. We've had features like Jennifer L. Pozner's series on product placement in TV and film that has come to seem wildly prescient since its publication in 2004. Guest bloggers like s.e. smith and Anna Clark have gone on to bring their whip-smart analysis of media and pop culture to more-mainstream-than-Bitch web destinations like xoJane and Grantland. Former interns have continued on as the creators of sites like Muslimah Media Watch and nist.tv. And we've felt incredibly lucky to have longstanding relationships with writers and thinkers like these and others whose work is, we're pretty sure, changing the world for the better.
One of the other things that we feel strongly about at Bitch is that there should be as few barriers to entry as possible, which is why we have an open submission process and writers' guidelines that are public and easily accessible. We want Bitch's content, whether in the magazine or online, to reflect the world of feminism in which most of us live our daily lives: Intense, challenging, occasionally absurd, absorbing, and, perhaps most important, evolving. We want to help our contributors shape their great ideas into great articles and blog posts. And we want our contributors, readers, supporters to see in Bitch what they value about feminism as a whole.
If you value the importance of nurturing and elevating the many voices of feminist and pop-culture criticism, please consider supporting Bitch as a donor or sustainer!
