Douchebag Decree: Men's News Daily
Touted by its editors as "Your Daily Dose of Counter-Theory," the folks at Men's News Daily strive to unveil the truth about what it means to "be a man." By reading their mission statement, I learned a great number of things about both men (the "direct sex"...I'm not really sure what this means...when I Googled "the direct sex" my first results included a "Live Video Chat with Hot Girls" and instructions on how to direct a sex scene) and women (the "fair sex"). For instance, did you know that...
--"the entire world—with its roads, buildings, places of worship, homes, medicines, appliances, and scholarship—was forged and crafted almost exclusively by male hands"? Yup. No men = no mosques, nowhere to live, and certainly nothing of use in either the medical or engineering fields.
--if you consider yourself a 'radical,' you probably are fond of pretending that "the birth of every boy is the moment in which a potential Manson or proto-rapist has entered the world"?
--"males are told that the only route to salvation is feminization"? Additionally, men "must parrot the traits, aspirations, affectations, and behaviors of the fair sex even though their moods are conspicuously less rosy than our own." What!? Men are supposed to be like women in every sense even though everyone knows women are bitches!? I had no idea.
--socialism is to blame for the current state of affiars (i.e., the marginalization of men in society). You know what that means: that gosh darn no good socialist Barack HUSSEIN Obama is behind the winding "road to serfdom" modern Western men find themselves traveling upon.
The mission closes with the following words of real HOPE and CHANGE:
"MensNewsDaily.com was founded in 2001 and remains a sanctuary for men. It is one of the few remaining places where a man can be a man without apology. We thank you for visiting, but encourage you to join us in our mission. Welcome brothers!"
Where a man can be a man...MND, you aren't affiliated with Ketel One Vodka, are you?
I've gotta confess that I went nosing around Men's News Daily looking for a douchebag to decree. I clicked on a post titled "Sony's Ugly Truth About Women," preparing to be offended. What turned out to be a review of stereotype-laden The Ugly Truth began innocently (and almost feminist-ly) enough:
Open the nightstand drawer of almost every woman; what will you find? A vibrator. It's not for mixing concrete. If she just wants to be held and cuddled, while all he wants is sex, why does she own a vibrator? You figure it out.
Whoa, Men's News Daily, are you for real? You have a contributor who acknowledges that women are sexual beings? I never would have guessed! The post went on to bemoan the predictable "battle-of-the-sexes" featuring a "male lead as a sex-starved pig" [emphasis not mine]. I continued reading, shocked that an individual privy to gender role socialization was writing for MND. My excitement increased as I read the following spot-on paragraph:
The real ugly truth is that our squeamish society continues to engage, voluntarily, in a charade of self-deception about female sexuality — just as it continues to pretend that America is a bastion of capitalism. People have emotional difficulty with the concept of a horny woman, and women take advantage of this phenomenon in dating and marriage.
This guy gets it, save for the second half of the last sentence above. Right? Right? Wrong. I read on only to discover that the reason we don't see movies featuring female protagonists with insatiable libidos is because "feminists would fill the streets, crying exploitation, objectification, and victimization." Really? The same movement that promotes societal acceptance of healthy sexual expression for people of all genders would be up in arms if a horny woman was made a prominent character in a mainstream film? Somehow I doubt that, thought I guess it would depend heavily on how said horny woman was portrayed.
Unfortunately, the blame the above contributor places on feminism is likely the least of MND's antifeminist problems. Currently featured articles have such charming tites as "Why Modern Feminism is Illogical, Unnecesary, and Evil" (though the title is taken from a recent Psychology Today online article, MND includes that article as well as other recent "news" that serves as evidence for the horrors of feminism), "The Women's Studies Freak Show," "Feminists Endowed with a Superiority Complex," "Ladies, Only YOU Can Prevent Cheating" and "Published: Gay Marriage Harms Familes in California." Loves it.
