Primal: Issue 50, Spring 2011
Art Director: Kristin Rogers Brown
Photographer: Jeffery Walls
The Primal cover was a collaboration between Art Director Kristin Rogers Brown and local floral designer Zenaido Gonzalez. Our goal was to create something primitive, fresh, and springy that featured ladybugs. Lovely, straightforward, and strong, we like to think of them as the Gloria Steinems of the insect world. The arrangement itself was created as a background of texture and color to set off ladybugs purchased (in hibernation) from a garden supply store. A small container which housed more than 1,500 sleepy creatures was placed nearby; the ladies were liberated and coaxed onto the arrangement, and later left to roam free in Northwest Portland.

Only 8 of these prints are left. Satisfy that primal urge and buy yours today!
