Maturity & Immaturity: Issue 21, Summer 2003
Art Director: Briar Levit
Illustrator: Andi Zeisler
The issue number 21 inspired the theme of the Maturity & Immaturity issue, whose content explored the territories of precocity, growth, aging, and alienation. So the medium of building blocks—as a classic plaything, a metaphor for evolution, and a representation of the compartmentalization required to be a so-called grownup— seemed to fit the bill for this cover. Painted on multiple sides with representations of the trappings of adulthood (house, keys) and the items that often accompany them (dogs, kids, antidepressant medication), the blocks were arranged to highlight the multifaceted experience of moving into maturity, and the resulting feeling of balancing a precarious combination of desires and needs.
Only 12 of these limited-edition prints remain! Buy yours now before they're all grown up!
