BitchTapes: Critters & Crawlers

A city kid by nature, I am oddly fascinated by animals and bugs (as long as they aren't in my house). Plus, it seems particularly appropriate to dedicate my mix to critters during the season of camping and hikes. Enjoy!

1. Amoeba - The Adolescents

Maybe I'm stretching it thematically to include amoebas in my wild kingdom, but I don't care. Just picture the kind of adorable Amoeba Records logo and try to deny that blob a place in this mix!

2. When Doves Cry - Prince

I feel like the inclusion of Prince on a mix CD is a little like being the kid with the good dessert at lunchtime...all of a sudden, everyone thinks you are cool and wants to be your friend. Right?

3. Scorpi-Oh - The Bangs

Maybe The Bangs were singing about the astrological symbol, but I like this catchy tune and have never actually seen a scorpion before.

4. Wolves - Dosh

The first of two wolf songs on this mix, Dosh would be the perfect DJ for a wild kingdom themed dance party.

5. Astro Zombies - The Misfits

Alright, if I am going to frustrate anyone with pushing the boundaries of thematic interpretation, it is going to be with this song. Hey, I consider zombies a group of creatures that I share this planet with. Plus, these are ASTRO zombies, so I'm just being inclusive to space critters.

6. Wolf Like Me - TV On The Radio

This song might have been the inspiration for this mix, seeing as how I love TVOTR and "Wolf Like Me" is my favorite jam.

7. The Day I Was A Horse - The Vaselines

I'm surprised no one (myself included) had posted a BitchTapes with The Vaselines on it before. Thank god they have a song with an animal in the title!

8. Bird Flu - M.I.A.

The always crushable M.I.A. brings it with this track. Jump out of your chair and dance around!
