True Blood for the male gaze?

I can't say much about beefcake in the general media, but in the specific case of True Blood, I think it's important to note that the books it's based on are from the "paranormal romance" genre. This genre is very much aimed at female readers; there's some pretty sketchy stuff in there about the romantic attraction of danger and "alpha males". But that's another discussion. I don't know how much True Blood is aimed at female watchers, and it certainly doesn't shy away from sexy outfits and situations for the women either, but I think it's perfectly believable that the beefcake in it is to appeal to women.
