I'm a bit of a dinosaur, really. I studied science illustration program at the University of California at Santa Cruz, drooling over historic pen & ink techniques and wishing I could be like Maria Sybilla Meriam. Before sneaking into Bitch Magazine, my drawings had appeared exclusively in very obscure scientific journals. I think science illustration is a great way to become a temporary expert on the toes of pterodactyls and the digestive tracts of carnivorous plants, without going through the trouble of acquiring pesky degrees in these disparate subjects.
