Contributors

Yasmin Nair (“Queers on the Run”) is a Chicago-based activist, academic, and writer and a member of the local grassroots group Gender JUST (Justice United for Societal Transformation). She is also a member of the editorial collective Against Equality. Her writing has appeared in publications like Discourse, GLQ, No More Potlucks, make/shift, Maximum RocknRoll, Windy City Times, and The Bilerico Project. She is currently writing a book on the role of affect in public discourse.

Megan Carpentier (“The Year Hip Hop Reinvented Sex”) is a freelance writer. She was, until it went bankrupt, the editor of news and politics at Air America Media. Previously, she was an editor at Jezebel.com and the Associate Editor of Wonkette.com. Her work has appeared in the Washington Post, Ms., the Washington Independent, Radar, and Us Weekly, and on Glamour’s Glamocracy blog, Foreign Policy’s Madame Secretary blog, the Daily Beast, RH Reality Check, Jezebel.com, and The Gloss. Prior to becoming a writer, she spent seven years working in Washington, D.C. as a lobbyist. She has a Master of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University and a BA from Boston University.

Jonathan Frochtzwajg (“Prize Patrol”) is a freelance writer whose work has been published in Willamette Week, the Portland Mercury, Los Angeles CityBeat, and the Glendale News-Press. He has had to tell, like, a gazillion people that patriarchy is bad for both women and men, but he would still like one of those “this is what a feminist looks like” shirts for his birthday (July 1!). Jonathan is originally from Los Angeles and will defend it to his dying day, but he now lives in the practically perfect city of Portland, Oregon.

Raised in South Florida and holding a BFA in Illustration from Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota, Helena Garcia (illustrations, “Re:Action”) enjoys creating designs and paintings consisting of whimsical characters, from little girls with funny haircuts to animals and everything in between. Her inspirations come from Japanese aesthetics, cartoons from the ’60s, and vintage design. In her spare time, she likes eating desserts, taking naps, and hanging out with her chihuahua, Kiko, and her fella, Charlie.

Brian Frank (“Ms. Big Stuff”) is the Operations Director at Bitch Media. He has been active in social-justice and environmental causes for the past decade, most recently working for the human-rights group Global Exchange, cofounding the north American branch of the grassroots energy/climate-change network Rising Tide, and doing relief work in New Orleans. When not partying with spreadsheets or making elaborate sandwiches in the Bitch kitchen, Brian likes to botanize in the Cascade mountains.
