Is a Threesome Worrisome?

TV post by Kjerstin Johnson, November 11, 2009 - 11:42pm; tagged Gossip Girl, parenting, sex, teen sex, threesomes, tv.

This Monday's episode of Gossip Girl stirred up controversy when a menage-a-trois was featured--the act was last on a list of fifteen things to do before you graduate from college. Teasers for the episode had the Parent Television Council ("Because Our Children Are Watching") up in arms, calling airing the subject matter "reckless and irresponsible." The scene ended up being pretty tame, but is still making OMFG waves where parents are concerned. But is there a right way to watch it?

Early to Rise: Sex Toys for Smart Guys (and Everyone Else)

Sex and Sexuality post by Kelsey Wallace, October 22, 2009 - 12:19am; tagged advice, Early to Bed, Early to Rise, MEN, queer, sex, sex toys, transgender.
We here at Bitch are longtime fans of the Chicago-based feminist sex shop Early to Bed. Imagine our delight, then (and yours too potentially) when we learned of Early to Bed's new brother venture, Early to Rise! (How cute are those two names, by the way? Sex has never been so adorable!)
While Early to Bed caters mainly to the ladies (which is awesome), Early to Rise bills itself as the place to go for "sex toys for smart guys" (which is also awesome). Sex toys they have, to be sure, but they also have so much more!

Bed, Bitch & Beyond: No Sex, Please, We're Sex-Positive Feminists

Social Commentary post by BeckySharper, September 30, 2009 - 12:38am; tagged Bed Bitch & Beyond, feminist, sex, sex-positive.

I wanted to let readers get the last word on the "Is No Sex Sex-Positive" post--between Bitch, Facebook, Harpyness and e-mails I received, it was clear that everyone had an opinion about not having sex, and why/whether conscious celibacy is an inherently feminist or sex-positive decision. Once again, people thought of aspects to the debate that I hadn't, including discussion of non-intercourse sex acts and asexuality. There was much back-and-forth over what constituted "sex" and "being sexual." What about all that fun non-penetrative stuff? Are you really celibate if you're giving/receiving oral sex? How about mutual masturbation? It was clear we all had just as many opinions about the feminist implications of NOT having sex as we do about the many different ways we have it.
