$pread is 3!

Bitch on Wheels blog post by Debbie Rasmussen, February 28, 2008 - 9:12pm; tagged magazines, pro-sex, sex work.

On the bus to work today, I read the new issue of $pread magazine. Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Feminism But Were Afraid to Ask

Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Feminism But Were Afraid to Ask
Article by Rachel Fudge, appeared in issue Anniversary; published in 2005; filed under Social commentary; tagged anti-porn, ERA, feminazi, NOW, pro-sex, radical feminism, riot grrrl, second wave, third wave, womanism.

It should be a joyful, tender, and esteem-building part of life, not a source of confusion or shame. Yet it’s hard to get a handle on it, because although there’s a lot of information out there, much of it is judgmental, misinformed, or quite simply false.

Talkshows

TV's Culture of Categorization
Article by Lisa Jervis, appeared in issue Issue #2; published in 1996; filed under Broadcast; tagged female sexuality, language, popularity, pro-sex, promiscuity, reputation, sex, sexuality, shame, stereotypes, talk shows, teens.

Talk shows are the scariest thing on the planet today. You think I’m exaggerating, don’t you? Think about it: not only are they the lowest common denominator of American pop culture, but they’re also—because they’re in the form of “real” people talking about their “real” lives—taken to be some measure of truth.
