Graphic designer: The designer will support the art director in creating and executing designs that maintain a cohesive look and feel, user experience, and continuity for the Bitch Media brand, which includes the magazine Bitch: Feminist Response to Pop Culture, as well as a growing series of multimedia projects and programs.
The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented designer with an interest in pop culture and the desire to work with our art director to become a design team, at a nonprofit multimedia organization that values good design, great content, and a sense of wit. Good production design skills are key in this position; we are a small team and there is a mix of “maintenance” work and some creative work to be done.
Areas of work may include: graphics, communications, publication, interaction, research/strategic, or environmental design for print media or digital delivery. While there will be some contributions to the print magazine, the majority of time will be spent in other areas. This position is part time. We have an internship program in areas of editorial, new media, publishing, design, and development. Internships are a minimum three month commitment and are located at our office in Portland, Oregon. Make sure to download the specific internship overview and follow the application instructions. Editorial Internship: The editorial intern supports the magazine staff with our quarterly print publication, Bitch. Applications for Winter internships are closed. New Media Internship: This intern supports the online editor with day-to-day operations of running Bitch’s social media, contribute articles to Bitchmedia.org, and help with special digital projects. Applications for Summer internships are taken until May 1. Click here for more information.
Design Internship: The role of the design intern is to support the art director. In return, the intern gets hands-on experience in helping with the production of an issue of Bitch and various campaigns, web content, and collateral to support the organization. Development and Outreach Internship: This intern get hands-on experience assisting with coordinating Bitch Media events, fundraising campaigns, our Bitch on Campus program, merchandise program, and our community lending library.
